Studio Shelley’s Favourite Season - Spring!

Here’s to a spring awakening, the shift with colour.

What’s one thing we love about spring? The colours. The sudden lift out of winter, a light emerging from the gloom and darkness. That new perspective of life and transformation. With this beautiful season emerging, we notice differences with the world around us, The flowers on the trees start to bloom with blues, pinks, yellows, greens and purples, the sky and sun are bright, and the world is now waking up, filling with vibrancy and suddenly you feel that fiery motivation and hope for the possibilities of the year. I think it’s time to say goodbye to winter and embrace all of this new beauty with open arms and be bold with this transition, implementing it into our homes. We all love spring, so why not bring it to your space? We’re going to be exploring the most Beautiful colours of spring 2024, how to style them in your rooms and make them come alive.

What I have noticed from last year so far this year, is people wanting stability with their interiors and how they style them, meaning they gravitate towards colours and designs that suit them throughout the year. This could be because of a crave of that grounding energy in your home. That sense of safety and ease. This is totally understandable from the uncertainty all around us, your home is your sanctuary and sometimes comfort can overcome taking bold and scary risks with interiors.

But who says this can’t be achieved WITH colour? It can! And it does! Colours that connect and reflect that bloom of the outside, nature blossoming and coming to life in front of us. Bringing tranquillity to this season but appreciating colours.

Let’s take a dive into using the colours in patterns to reflect the season. Whether it’s choosing a wallpaper, swapping cushions and furnishings, general decoration, patterns can reflect the season, bringing the outside to your home. Florals and pastels complimenting vibrant colours like with this example, imitate the new flowers emerging from outside. Yellows of the cushion covers and the swashes of ruby pink on the bedding harmonising together instantly bring life and energy to this bedroom. What I know as an interior designer is that if we think about it, almost all colours can happily align in a space together if considering a balance. This is represented by those soft blush colours from the furniture and wallpaper background, which allows those vibrant notes to stand out more and steer away from being jarring. Isn’t this beautiful?

I hope after reading my thoughts and inspirations for what I’ve been seeing so far in the new season, you can take away a sense of new perspective for what could be for you. Never underestimate the power of colour and pattern and all it can serve for not only your personal style but also how it can transform the energy in a room. What I love most about my job, is seeing this first hand with my clients. So with this being said, let’s open up those curtains, let that sunshine come through and together we can say hello to spring with open arms.
